Job description
Responsible to the Assistant Principal and Attendance Officer, the Assistant Attendance Officer will be required:
To build positive relationships, identifying barriers to attendance and working with families and colleagues to improve engagement with education.
- To work closely with the Inclusion Team, Heads of Year, SEND Department and Safeguarding Team to support vulnerable students, ensuring appropriate interventions are implemented to improve attendance, wellbeing and successful reintegration into school.
To act as a key mentor for targeted students, delivering regular check-ins, attendance mentoring and agreed interventions.
- To support the successful reintegration of students following periods of absence, suspension or emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA), helping them to re-engage with learning and school life.
To contribute to weekly Inclusion Panel meetings, as well as other Team Around the Family/Child meetings and other multi-agency meetings where appropriate.
Duties and Responsibilities
Attendance
- To assist the Attendance Officer in monitoring and challenging student absences from school.
- Follow up on student absences and lateness by telephone or other means, on a daily basis with guidance from relevant colleagues, making appropriate referrals.
- To use data systems to identify vulnerable groups and provide challenge and support as necessary issuing Pre-Notice to Improve documentation when appropriate.
- Be an active presence in the local school community through daily school bus pick ups and home visits to students and parents/carers as appropriate.
- To assist in the initiation and follow through of appropriate sanctions in liaison with the Attendance Officer including fixed penalty notices and court action.
- Liaise with outside agencies, parents/carers, social services, other schools and/or organisations in relation to information on student attendance and punctuality.
- To be responsible for communication with parents/carers via Arbor/Synergy and send out daily communications related to attendance matters.
- To support any new strategies employed by senior staff to help improve attendance.
- To support with the daily administration of attendance via Arbor. Ensuring student attendance records are accurate.
- To raise any safeguarding concerns via CPOMS.
Resources
To operate office equipment as required.
Other
To assist the attendance officer with any additional attendance tasks when not engaged in any of the attendance duties including administration, letter generation and filing
Any other duties commensurate with the post.

To participate in all aspects of training and development.
To comply with the academies Health and Safety Policy and associated safe working procedures and guidelines.
To comply with the academies Comprehensive Equality Policy and ensure that it is implemented within the service area of the post.
To comply with the academies Data Protection Policy and Code of Practice within the service area of the post.
Undertaking other duties and responsibilities at the reasonable request of the Principal
