Teaching Commitment:3.5 days per week

Launton CE Primary School is a thriving and inclusive school with enthusiastic, motivated children. We are looking for an excellent teacher to join our dedicated and supportive staff team full time ideally from September 2026 but start date could be negotiated for the right candidate.

We require the Assistant Headteacher to provide strategic leadership and management across Inclusion (including Special Educational Needs and Disabilities - SEND) and Curriculum development. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), you will drive high standards of teaching, learning, and pupil progress, while championing an inclusive culture and maintaining a regular teaching commitment.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Management

  • Act as a visible and inspirational leader, modelling the school’s vision and values.
  • Contribute to the strategic development of the school through the School Development Plan (SDP).
  • Deputise for the Headteacher in their absence.
  • Work with the Headteacher to lead, motivate and support staff, promoting a culture of continual professional development, including maintaining their own professional learning.
  • Line manage, mentor, and coach designated teaching staff and support teams.
  • Provide strategic oversight of behaviour systems and practices, supporting staff to maintain high expectations and positive learning environments for all pupils.

Inclusion & SENCO Leadership

  • Lead the strategic direction of SEND, Pupil Premium, and EAL (English as an Additional Language) provision.
  • Oversee the identification, assessment, and provision for all pupils with additional needs.
  • Manage the statutory processes, including Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) needs assessments and annual reviews.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping.
  • Act as the key liaison with parents, external agencies (e.g., Educational Psychologists, Speech Therapists), and the Governing Body.

Curriculum Leadership

  • Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of a broad, balanced, and progressive curriculum.
  • Monitor teaching and learning through lesson observations, work scrutinies, and pupil progress meetings.
  • Ensure the curriculum meets the needs of all learners and complies with statutory requirements.

Teaching and Learning

  • Be an exemplary role model and leading classroom practitioner, inspiring and motivating other staff.
  • Work with the Headteacher to sustain high expectations and outstanding practice in teaching and learning throughout the school.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and standards of pupils’ achievement.
  • Be involved in skill sharing with other members of staff to raise pupils’ standards of achievement.

Deploying Staff and Resources

  • In consultation with, and by the direction of the Headteacher, deploy people and resources efficiently and effectively, e.g. timetables, deployment of Teachers, TAs and supply staff.
  • To participate in recruitment and selection, as agreed by the Headteacher.

Professional Standards

  • Uphold and promote the school's safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • Comply with the professional duties of a teacher and school leader as outlined in the latest School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document (STPCD).
  • Participate actively in continuing professional development (CPD).
  • To comply with individual responsibilities, in accordance with the role, for health and safety in the workplace.
  • To ensure that all duties and services provided are in accordance with the School’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
