Hamstead Hall Academy is seeking a dedicated, proactive and highly organised Attendance Officer to join our pastoral team on a one-year maternity cover contract. Reporting to the Assistant Headteacher (Pastoral), you will play a vital role in promoting excellent attendance, reducing barriers to education and supporting positive outcomes for all students.
About the role
The successful candidate will lead the day-to-day management of student attendance, working closely with pupils, families, school staff and external agencies to improve attendance levels and address persistent absence. You will use data effectively to identify trends, implement targeted interventions and ensure that attendance concerns are addressed promptly and appropriately.
Key responsibilities include:
- Monitoring and reporting on whole-school attendance data and trends.
- Following up unexplained absences and managing attendance-related procedures.
- Working with pupils and families to develop personalised attendance improvement plans.
- Coordinating attendance meetings, interventions and home visits where appropriate.
- Producing attendance reports for school leaders and tracking vulnerable pupil groups.
- Supporting safeguarding processes and identifying when attendance concerns may require additional intervention.
- Working collaboratively with the Educational Welfare Officer, Designated Safeguarding Leads and external agencies to secure positive outcomes for pupils.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience working within a school or educational setting.
- Possesses excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Can analyse data confidently and identify key trends and areas for action.
- Has strong administrative and organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Is confident using IT systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Understands attendance legislation, guidance and effective strategies to improve attendance.
- Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Demonstrates resilience, professionalism and a genuine commitment to supporting students and families.
