Job description
The Bishop of Winchester Academy is seeking to appoint a Chaplain and Wellbeing Lead to play a central role in supporting the spiritual life and mental health of our students. This unique role combines leading the Christian ethos of the academy with providing high-quality wellbeing and emotional support to enable all students to flourish.
The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and compassionate professional who is able to work empathically, non-judgementally and collaboratively to support students experiencing social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, while also contributing to the spiritual and liturgical life of the academy.
As Chaplin and Wellbeing Lead, you will be welcomed into an experienced team of professionals:
- Leading and supporting collective worship, including planning, preparation and delivery
- Supporting and developing the spiritual, religious and liturgical life of the academy
- Organising and contributing to services, key Christian festivals and seasonal celebrations
- Supporting students and staff in planning and leading acts of worship
- Promoting and developing the use of the chapel as a central space for prayer and reflection
- Supporting prayer groups and opportunities for spiritual reflection within the academy community
- Encouraging engagement with the academy’s Christian values across daily school life
- Leading on student mental health and wellbeing
- Providing a safe space and listening ear for students
- Supporting students with SEMH needs to access the curriculum
- Delivering and developing emotional literacy and wellbeing interventions
- Supporting students experiencing anxiety or school refusal
- Working closely with safeguarding, pastoral teams and external agencies
- Leading CPD for staff on emotional literacy and wellbeing
- Supporting transition for vulnerable students
