Job description
Are you passionate about promoting children’s emotional wellbeing and helping pupils thrive in school and life? Do you bring warmth, resilience and a trauma‑informed approach to supporting pupils and their families? Join Chyngton School as our Child & Family Support Practitioner and make a real difference to a welcoming coastal school that values inclusion, kindness and readiness to learn.
As Child & Family Support Practitioner you will:
- Champion pupils’ social, emotional and mental wellbeing through therapeutic, trauma‑informed practice.
- Identify needs early and plan, deliver and evaluate targeted interventions such as ELSA, anxiety support and social skills groups.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and families to support regulation, resilience and engagement in learning.
- Work closely with the Inclusion Leader, SEND team, school staff and external agencies to ensure timely support and referrals.
- Support behaviour management across the school using restorative approaches and contribute to improving consistency in practice.
- Maintain accurate records, follow safeguarding processes and support pupils at break and lunch times as required.
- This is a hands‑on role where you will directly influence pupils’ day‑to‑day wellbeing and help shape how the school supports its most vulnerable learners.
We are looking for someone who:
- Is warm, empathetic and resilient with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust with pupils and families.
- Has practical experience delivering targeted therapeutic interventions and a sound understanding of trauma‑informed approaches.
- Can work collaboratively with school staff, parents and external professionals and communicate sensitively in difficult situations.
- Is organised, reflective and able to monitor pupil progress and adapt support to meet changing needs.
- Is committed to inclusion and improving outcomes for disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND.
We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds and experiences — what matters most is your commitment to pupils’ wellbeing and your ability to have a positive impact in our school community.
Applications are handled on Teaching Vacancies (GOV.UK).
