The postholder will work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, carers and other professionals and contribute positively to the wider life of Broadway First School.

Teaching and learning

  • Plan and deliver well-structured lessons with clear learning objectives, appropriate challenge and high expectations for all pupils.
  • Use a range of teaching approaches and resources to engage pupils and meet differing needs, including through appropriate adaptive teaching.
  • Use assessment effectively to inform teaching, identify next steps and support pupil progress.
  • Create a positive, purposeful and inclusive learning environment in which pupils are encouraged to become confident and independent learners.
  • Provide appropriate feedback in accordance with school policy and use it to support pupils in improving their work.
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum.

Assessment, recording and reporting

  • Assess and record pupils’ attainment and progress systematically, using the school’s agreed systems.
  • Use assessment information and prior attainment to identify strengths, barriers to learning and appropriate next steps.
  • Participate in pupil progress discussions and contribute to actions designed to improve outcomes.
  • Prepare and present reports to parents and carers and communicate with them appropriately about pupils’ learning, progress and wellbeing.

Meeting pupils’ individual needs

  • Know the needs of pupils in the class and make appropriate provision for pupils with SEND, disadvantaged pupils, pupils requiring additional challenge and any other pupils with identified needs.
  • Contribute to, implement and review individual plans and provision as appropriate, in accordance with the school’s SEND procedures.
  • Work with the SENDCo and other professionals, including external specialists, and take account of relevant advice within classroom practice.
  • Attend and contribute to review meetings, including Annual Reviews, where appropriate.

Behaviour, safeguarding and wellbeing

  • Establish positive relationships with pupils and maintain high expectations for behaviour in accordance with the school’s Behaviour Policy.
  • Use positive, consistent and appropriate approaches to behaviour and support pupils to regulate and engage successfully in learning.
  • Safeguard pupils’ health, safety and welfare and follow the school’s safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times.
  • Record and report safeguarding concerns, accidents and incidents promptly using the school’s agreed procedures.

Working with others

  • Deploy and work effectively with teaching assistants and other adults supporting pupils in the class.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to curriculum and whole-school planning as appropriate.
  • Build constructive professional relationships with parents and carers and communicate with them in a timely and respectful manner.
  • Work effectively with visiting professionals and external agencies where this supports pupils’ education, wellbeing or additional needs.

Contribution to school life

  • Contribute positively to the wider life, ethos and development of Broadway First School.
  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings, professional development and other meetings as reasonably required.
  • Participate in assemblies, duties, educational visits and other school activities as appropriate to the role.
  • Take responsibility for continuing professional development and participate in appraisal arrangements.

Curriculum or subject responsibility

Depending on the experience and strengths of the successful candidate, a curriculum or subject responsibility may be allocated. Where this applies, the postholder will work with the Headteacher and colleagues to support the development, implementation and evaluation of provision in that area. • Provide practical advice and support to colleagues in the allocated area.
  • Contribute to curriculum planning and ensure appropriate progression and coverage.
  • Use appropriate evidence, including pupil work and assessment information, to identify strengths and priorities for development.
  • Support the effective organisation and use of resources for the subject or curriculum area.

Professional responsibilities

  • Meet the Teachers’ Standards and uphold high standards of professional conduct.
  • Work in accordance with school policies, including safeguarding, equality, health and safety, behaviour and data protection.
  • Promote equality of opportunity, inclusion, dignity and respect in all aspects of the role.
  • Undertake other duties that may reasonably be required and are consistent with the professional duties and level of responsibility of a class teacher.

Additional information

  • This post is subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks, including an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
  • Reasonable adjustments will be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.
  • This job description describes the main responsibilities of the post. It may be reviewed, following consultation, to reflect the changing needs of the school without altering the general character or level of responsibility of the role.
