Class Teacher of Physical Education

Greenfields Academy is a nurturing and dynamic school specialising in the support of pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Our team is passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people who face significant challenges, and we are seeking to appoint a dedicated and experienced ‘Physical Education’ teacher.

As a Physical Education Teacher at Greenfields Academy, you will play a pivotal role in inspiring and engaging our students through high-quality physical education and sport. You will ensure that the needs of students with SEMH are met through an inclusive, adaptive and personalised approach to PE, supporting pupils to develop their physical skills, confidence, resilience, teamwork and emotional wellbeing. The role will include, but is not limited to, the following:

Lead and deliver high-quality, engaging and adaptive PE lessons across all Key Stages

Plan and deliver a broad, balanced and progressive PE curriculum that meets the individual needs and abilities of students with SEMH

Adapt teaching, learning activities and sporting opportunities to ensure all pupils can access and achieve within PE

Monitor and evaluate the progress and attainment of students in PE, using assessment information to inform future planning and interventions

Develop students' physical literacy, fitness, coordination, teamwork, resilience and confidence

Promote positive attitudes towards physical activity, health and wellbeing across the school

Develop and manage a range of extra-curricular sporting opportunities, clubs and activities

Organise and support students to participate in inter-school competitions, sporting events and community activities

Promote positive behaviour, relationships and engagement using sport and physical activity

Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure PE contributes to students' wider SEMH, personal development and EHCP outcomes

Maintain high expectations of student behaviour, participation and achievement, using appropriate behaviour and emotion coaching strategies where required

Ensure that PE equipment, facilities and learning environments are safe, accessible and appropriately maintained

Support the development of links with local sporting organisations, clubs and external providers to broaden opportunities for students

Contribute to whole-school curriculum development, assessment, quality assurance and school improvement priorities

Support the profile growth of the school within the local community through PE, sport and physical activity opportunities

The successful candidate will have:

Proven experience of teaching PE, preferably within a specialist, SEMH or SEND setting

A strong understanding of how physical education and physical activity can support the academic, social, emotional and physical development of young people

A strong understanding of SEMH needs and the ability to adapt teaching and learning to meet individual student needs

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues

Resilience, empathy and the ability to remain calm and positive when working with students who may present with challenging behaviour

Excellent organisational skills and the ability to plan and manage a range of sporting activities and opportunities

A passion for sport and physical education, with the ability to inspire and motivate young people

Demonstrate a high standard of spoken and written English

Demonstrate high expectations of pupils and an ability to apply a variety of teaching, learning and behaviour support strategies

A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and providing positive opportunities for all pupils to succeed

The interview process may involve delivering an intervention learning task, written task and an interview panel.
