Job description

Ready for a Change? Make a Real Difference at King’s Academy Lord Wilson.

Are you an experienced and passionate primary or secondary teacher feeling the constraints of a mainstream environment? Do you yearn for a setting where you can truly connect with students, break down barriers to learning, and witness the tangible impact of your dedication?

King’s Academy Lord Wilson is an expanding school, a specialist secondary school for boys with social, emotional, and mental health needs. We're not just teaching - we're transforming lives. We're a small, hardworking team pushing the boundaries of what's possible for our students, fostering high academic ambitions and ensuring they leave us with the qualifications and experiences to thrive beyond Year 11. This year, we are set to enjoy our best ever results for our Year 11s, reflecting the dedication and progress of our students and staff.

Here's what you can expect in this role:

  • Reconnect with your passion for teaching: In our small, nurturing environment, you'll have the opportunity to truly understand and meet the complex needs of each individual pupil. Say goodbye to the endless marking of 30 books!

  • Bring your unique skills and experience: We especially welcome experienced primary practitioners who can infuse their pedagogical approaches into our primary-style classrooms, creating engaging and accessible learning experiences.

  • Shape innovative subjects: Be part of developing and delivering progressive subjects such as Health & Fitness and Esports in our newly renovated facilities.

  • Witness the journey of individual pupils: Be an integral part of their growth, celebrating their successes and overcoming challenges together.

  • Develop your expertise in SEMH: Our experienced team, including colleagues with extensive SEMH knowledge and NPQs in Teaching & Learning and Supporting Behaviour, will provide comprehensive support as you transition from a mainstream setting, if required.

  • Continuously learn and grow: We are committed to providing opportunities for your ongoing training and professional development.

  • Be part of something truly innovative: We're not afraid to challenge traditional approaches and are seeing our students rise to the occasion as we strive for ambitious academic outcomes.

  • Make a lasting impact: You'll be instrumental in breaking down barriers for our learners, ensuring they gain the qualifications and experiences needed for successful post-16 pathways, both on and off our school site.

  • Benefit from excellent facilities: Our newly renovated site includes a fitness suite accessible to all staff.

  • We may be able to offer a part-time role to the right candidate, preferably mornings only, to be part of delivering across our Year 7 and 8 primary-type classrooms.

We are happy to arrange a tour for those wanting to meet us before applying. We can easily fit this around our working day.

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking dedicated and experienced primary or secondary practitioners who are:

  • Passionate about supporting students with SEMH needs.

  • Eager to develop their practice in a specialist setting.

  • Flexible and able to plan bespoke provision to meet the complex needs of our pupils.

  • Collaborative and thrive in a close-knit team environment.

  • Reflective and committed to continuous improvement.

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

  • A driving license is preferable as we often transport pupils to additional curriculum activities.

What we offer at King’s Academy Lord Wilson:

  • A supportive and experienced team dedicated to your professional growth.

  • Opportunities for specialist training and development in SEMH.

  • A small, nurturing environment where you can truly make a difference.

  • The chance to be part of an ambitious and forward-thinking expanding school with newly renovated facilities.

  • The immense satisfaction of seeing students with complex needs thrive and achieve our best ever Year 11 results this year.

  • Access to our on-site fitness suite for staff well-being.

  • Potential for a part-time, morning-only role within our Year 7 and 8 provision.

  • The opportunity to visit us for an informal tour before applying.

Ready to embark on a truly rewarding journey at King’s Academy Lord Wilson?

If you're a dedicated teacher seeking a role where you can genuinely impact young lives and be part of an innovative and supportive community at an expanding school celebrating its best ever Year 11 results, we encourage you to apply. We are also keen to hear from candidates who may be interested in a part-time, morning-only position and would welcome the opportunity to show you around our school.
