Hednesford Valley High is looking to appoint a committed, resilient and enthusiastic Cover Supervisor to join our dedicated team. This is a rewarding opportunity for an individual who is passionate about supporting young people to achieve their potential. The role would be particularly well suited to someone considering a future career in teaching and wishing to gain valuable experience towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Hednesford Valley High is a generic Special School set in Cannock Chase, an Area of Outstanding National
Beauty. We educate students on two sites, with years 7-11 at our main site and our Sixth Form is set in a dedicated
building at Cannock Chase High School. We have amazing students with a range of learning needs, who are
supported by dedicated staff with a passion for transforming the lives of our students. If you join our team, you will

The successful candidate will supervise classes during the short-term absence of teaching staff, ensuring that learning continues in a positive, safe and supportive environment.
Working closely with teachers, support staff and senior leaders, you will play an important role in maintaining high expectations for students' learning, behaviour and wellbeing while contributing to our inclusive school community.
Key Responsibilities
As a Cover Supervisor, you will:
- Supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of teachers, delivering work that has been set by teaching staff.
- Support students to engage positively with their learning and achieve their individual targets.
- Promote a calm, purposeful and inclusive learning environment.
- Manage student behaviour in accordance with the school's policies and procedures.
- Support the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and other personalised learning strategies.
- Build positive relationships with students, acting as a role model and encouraging confidence, independence and resilience.
- Provide feedback to teaching staff regarding student participation, progress and behaviour.
- Complete attendance and reward tracking.
- Use ICT, learning resources and specialist equipment appropriately to support learning.
- Respond effectively to any immediate issues or emergencies, following school procedures.
We Are Looking For Someone Who:
- Has experience of working with children or young people, preferably in an educational or special school setting.
- A clean driving licence and access to a vehicle, as you may be required to travel between our main site at Hednesford Valley High & our Sixth Form which is based at Cannock Chase High.
- Who is willing to train as a Mini-bus driver.
- Can establish positive and professional relationships with students and staff.
- Has excellent communication and behaviour management skills.
- Is calm, adaptable and able to work on their own initiative.
- Has a commitment to inclusion and supporting students with additional needs.
- Is organised, reliable and able to maintain accurate records.
- Has good literacy, numeracy and ICT skills.
