Job description
We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated Curriculum Leader of PE with a love for their subject to join our vibrant and supportive team. There are currently six specialist teachers who enjoy a range of adaptive teaching approaches, both contributing to the academic and pastoral life of the school.
Cove School has an ambitious and dynamic PE department where high-quality teaching and pupil engagement is embedded across the curriculum. The PE department benefits from an excellent range of dedicated indoor and outdoor facilities.
The PE team offer a wide variety of sports, fitness and extra-curricular activities. The team leads the Duke of Edinburgh Award across the school, works closely with our primary feeder schools, and engages with a wide range of cross-curricular work within the school.
As Curriculum Leader, you will play a key role in fostering a positive team culture, supporting staff development, monitoring pupil progress and ensuring that the department continues to thrive and contribute to the wider success of the school.
The successful candidate will have a clear vision for the future development of PE, with the ability to inspire both pupils and staff. They will be committed to raising standards, developing an innovative and inclusive curriculum, and expanding extra-curricular opportunities for pupils of all abilities.
We are looking to appoint a colleague who will:
- Engage, enthuse, motivate and challenge pupils in order for them to excel academically
- Have relentlessly high expectations of themselves and pupils
- Have excellent subject knowledge
- Be willing to teach across the full age range of pupils;year 7 to year 11
- Enhance the quality of teaching and learning in the department and wider school through sharing resources and good practice, lesson observation, collaborative teaching, mentoring and active participation in continuing professional studies programme
- Teach a standard timetable allocation (PPA and Leadership time assumed)
- Lead the efficient running of the curriculum area, including, setting and marking examinations, leading departmental meetings and undertaking administrative and other tasks, delegating as appropriate
- Actively safeguard and promote the health & safety, and welfare of children and staff
- Support the schools’ aims and objectives for teaching and learning
- Adhere to and promote all school policies and procedures
Person Specification:
- Good degree in a directly related subject (essential)
- Thorough knowledge of the (11-16) subject Curriculum up to GCSE
- Recognised teaching qualification, such as a PGCE, or equivalent experience
- Awareness of Safeguarding requirements and good practice regarding health & safety
- Good level of IT literacy
- Be capable of delivering inspirational and informative lessons to the full age and ability range of pupils at the school
- Be able to demonstrate a positive and authoritative rapport with pupils
- Excellent and effective classroom management skills
- Have excellent communication skills to enable effective dialogue with pupils, parents, staff and visitors
- Be organised and self-motivated, with a proven record for meeting targets and deadlines
