Head of MFL (Spanish)

Burnley High School wishes to appoint a hardworking, enthusiastic and committed Teacher of Spanish who will also take on the responsibility of Head of MFL for the school. You will either already be a middle leader or a teacher with the ambition to move into leadership. The successful candidate will be a highly determined and outstanding classroom practitioner with the ability to provide clear subject leadership, drive curriculum development and secure strong outcomes for students in MFL.

The role will include:

1. Reviewing, designing and implementing an ambitious and well-sequenced MFL curriculum that meets the needs of all students.
2. Leading the strategic development of MFL across the school.
3. Ensuring high-quality teaching, learning and assessment within MFL.
4. Monitoring student progress and implementing strategies to secure strong outcomes for all learners.
5. Developing students' linguistic knowledge, cultural understanding and communication skills.
6. Supporting the continued promotion and development of MFL as a key Burnley High School subject.
7. Working collaboratively with senior leaders to drive improvement and raise achievement.

What are the job requirements?

1. Qualified Teacher Status
2. Qualified to at least degree level in Spanish/or adequate post degree conversion course
3. Proven record or evidence from teaching practice of potential to help students reach high standards of learning and achievement
4. Consistently good or outstanding classroom practitioner as measured by student outcomes.
5. Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills across a range of stakeholders.
6. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure and re-prioritise workload when needed
7. A high level of self-awareness – knows strengths and weaknesses and can build positive working relationships
8. Excellent ICT skills for teaching
9. The ambition and vision to lead and develop a successful MFL department.

Burnley High School was founded in 2014 in Burnley, Lancashire. It is a mainstream school for mixed pupils aged 11-16. Burnley High School is part of the Education Partnership Trust.
