Head of Science

Are you an ambitious and inspirational leader with a passion for Science and a commitment to securing excellent outcomes for all students?

The Blue Coat School is seeking to appoint an exceptional Head of Science to lead our successful and well-resourced department. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher and leader to shape the strategic direction of Science across Key Stages 3 and 4 whilst driving excellence in teaching, learning and student achievement. Our Science department is highly regarded within the school, offering both Combined Science and Triple Science at Key Stage 4, alongside a range of enrichment opportunities that inspire curiosity, creativity and a love of learning.

As part of the South Farnham Educational Trust, The Blue Coat School is committed to providing an inclusive, aspirational and high-quality education for every student. We are proud of our strong sense of community, high expectations and commitment to continuous improvement. Every student has a place in our school and our staff are dedicated to ensuring that all young people achieve their full potential.

We are looking for a dynamic and innovative leader who possesses the talent, enthusiasm and determination to lead Science and further develop a culture of excellence across the department. As Head of Science, you will provide strategic leadership for the subject, ensuring a high-quality curriculum, exceptional classroom practice and strong outcomes for all learners. You will play a key role in developing colleagues, sharing best practice and embedding high expectations throughout the department.

At The Blue Coat School, every lesson counts. Our teaching and learning philosophy is centred on quality first teaching, ambitious learning experiences and the belief that all students can succeed. We are committed to continually refining our practice and developing effective pedagogical approaches that enable every learner to make excellent progress. The successful candidate will be passionate about teaching and learning, committed to professional growth and driven by a desire to make a lasting difference to the lives of young people.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a proven track record of excellent classroom practice and securing strong outcomes in Science.

  • Have experience of leading and developing teaching, learning and assessment to raise standards and improve student achievement.

  • Be an inspiring leader with the ability to motivate, support and develop colleagues.

  • Be passionate about curriculum development and innovative pedagogy.

  • Have high expectations of themselves, their team and their students.

  • Possess excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.

  • Be committed to ensuring every student achieves their full potential.

  • Embrace collaboration, challenge and continuous improvement.

  • Be enthusiastic about contributing to the wider life of the school, including enrichment and extra-curricular opportunities.

  • Have a thorough understanding of current curriculum developments in Science and a commitment to delivering an ambitious and engaging curriculum.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced middle leader, or an ambitious leader ready for their next challenge, to join a supportive and forward-thinking school where professional development is valued, innovation is encouraged and student success is at the heart of everything we do.
