Job description
We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and proactive Home School Link Worker to join our team. This is a pivotal role within our school, working closely with children, families, staff, and external agencies to remove barriers to learning and ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive both academically and personally.
The successful candidate will work in partnership with all school staff to provide support for parents and carers, improve attendance, safeguard vulnerable children, and strengthen the relationship between home and school. They will play a key role in promoting pupil wellbeing, supporting family engagement, and coordinating interventions that help children reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
Safeguarding and Child Protection- Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead alongside the Headteacher.
- Maintain and manage safeguarding and child protection records using CPOMS.
- Provide safeguarding guidance and training to school staff.
- Keep staff informed of updates to statutory safeguarding guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education.
- Attend Child Protection, Child in Need, Team Around the Family and other multi-agency meetings.
- Lead and coordinate Early Help Assessments and other support strategies initiated by the school.
- Liaise effectively with external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for children and families.
- Attend all statutory and role-related training.
- Monitor pupil attendance and identify concerns through regular attendance reporting.
- Work collaboratively with families to improve attendance and punctuality.
- Develop and implement whole-school attendance initiatives and incentives.
- Support children who are persistently absent or late by identifying barriers and providing practical solutions.
- Conduct home visits where appropriate to support school refusers and vulnerable families.
- Ensure staff are aware of relevant medical information affecting pupils.
- Plan, organise and deliver nurture groups and wellbeing interventions.
- Support children's social, emotional and mental health needs through targeted programmes.
- Provide a safe, supportive environment where parents and children can discuss concerns.
- Support families experiencing challenges such as bereavement, parental separation, financial hardship, disability, illness, or domestic abuse.
- Deliver parenting support and guidance programmes.
- Signpost families to relevant services, resources, and community support networks.
- Assist parents in accessing support such as Free School Meals and other available benefits.
- Liaise with professionals including school nurses, CAMHS, health visitors, GPs, and other agencies.
- Plan and deliver targeted interventions, including programmes such as Rainbows and Lego Therapy.
The successful candidate will:
- Have experience working with children, families, and vulnerable individuals.
- Possess a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- Be confident working with a range of external agencies and professionals.
- Demonstrate excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
- Be empathetic, resilient, and able to build positive relationships with children and families.
- Have experience of supporting attendance, wellbeing, and family engagement initiatives.
- Be committed to promoting the welfare and safeguarding of children.
