About the Role

Are you passionate about technology and looking for an opportunity where your skills can make a real difference?

Blessed William Howard Catholic High School is looking for a proactive, approachable and technically confident IT & Systems Engineer to join our team.

You will help ensure that our IT systems and digital services operate effectively across the school, providing friendly and responsive first-line support to students, staff and parents. From resolving day-to-day technical issues and managing helpdesk requests to maintaining hardware, software and digital platforms, this is a varied role at the heart of school life.

Working alongside the Systems Administrator and Senior Leadership Team, you will help provide reliable technology that supports high-quality teaching and learning throughout the school.

What You’ll Be Doing

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing responsive, customer-focused first-line IT support.
  • Managing and prioritising helpdesk tickets to minimise disruption to learning.
  • Installing, maintaining and troubleshooting devices, hardware, software and digital platforms.
  • Managing user accounts, permissions and passwords across systems including Active Directory, Google Workspace and Microsoft 365.
  • Identifying and investigating recurring technical issues.
  • Monitoring IT systems and services proactively.
  • Maintaining accurate systems documentation and assisting with asset management and audits.
  • Supporting audio-visual equipment for assemblies, presentations, parents’ evenings, Mass and external events.
  • Helping colleagues develop their IT knowledge where recurring support needs are identified.
  • Supporting the security, privacy, reliability and confidentiality of school systems and data.
  • Supporting safeguarding arrangements through appropriate monitoring of web-filter alerts and device filtering.

About You

We are looking for someone who combines strong technical skills with excellent communication and customer service.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience of working in a customer-facing technical helpdesk role.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to remain calm and patient under pressure.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience of maintaining Microsoft 365.
  • Experience of troubleshooting a range of operating systems, IT systems and hardware.
  • A basic knowledge of network infrastructure.
  • An awareness of IT security principles and data protection.
  • GCSE or equivalent qualifications in English and Mathematics.
  • Education to at least A-Level or equivalent.

Experience within an educational environment, knowledge of Google Workspace, experience of print-management solutions such as PaperCut, and a relevant IT qualification would also be desirable.
