We are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and highly motivated Learning Mentor for Children in Care (CiC) to join our dedicated inclusion team.
This is a rewarding opportunity to work directly with some of our most vulnerable students, helping them overcome barriers to learning, achieve academic success, and develop the confidence and resilience needed to thrive both in school and beyond.
As a Learning Mentor, you will play a vital role in ensuring our Children in Care receive the support, encouragement, and advocacy they need to reach their full potential. You will work closely with students, families, carers, social workers, the Virtual School, and school staff to promote attendance, engagement, wellbeing, and achievement.
The Role
The successful candidate will:
- Build positive and trusting relationships with Children in Care.
- Provide mentoring, guidance, and individual support to help students overcome barriers to learning.
- Monitor attendance, academic progress, behaviour, and wellbeing.
- Support the development and review of Personal Education Plans (PEPs).
- Act as a key point of contact between school, carers, families, and external agencies.
- Advocate for students and ensure their educational needs are at the centre of decision-making.
- Work collaboratively with pastoral, SEND, safeguarding, behaviour and teaching teams to secure the best outcomes for students.
- Contribute to a culture of high expectations and inclusion.
We Are Looking For Someone Who:
- Has experience working with children and young people, particularly vulnerable learners.
- Understands the challenges faced by Children in Care and the impact these can have on education and wellbeing.
- Is a skilled communicator who can build productive relationships with students, carers, families, colleagues, and external professionals.
- Is organised, proactive, and able to manage a varied workload.
- Can inspire, motivate, and support young people to achieve their potential.
- Has a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Shares our belief that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their starting point or circumstances.
Working pattern:
37 hours per week, term time plus one week
Monday-Thursday 8.00am-4.00pm, Friday 8.00am-3.30pm.
