Location: Mendip Green Primary School, Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset

Interview date: 22 June 2026

Contract: 11 hours 30 minutes per week over two days, term-time only. 12 month fixed term contract until 31 August 2027 (possible extension dependent on funding)

Although it helps, it is not essential to be qualified to apply for this role. You may be looking for a career change and want the opportunity to make a real difference to the education and wellbeing of our children. You may have different lived or work experience, gained in the care sector, or the NHS for example, or worked/volunteered with children in non-school environment. You may be leaving college with a level 2 in education and early years, or a certificate in childcare and are looking for the opportunity to share your skills.

The most important thing is having the right mindset for the role. You need to be proactive, energetic, and committed in order to engage pupils and develop their desire to learn. You will help inspire them to be confident and independent. You will need to be calm, patient, sensitive, and able to comfort children when they are upset. We are looking for people who demonstrate a positive attitude and enthusiasm for creating a supportive learning environment.

Formal qualifications help, but they’re not essential. What matters most is your mindset, we’d love to hear from you if you are:

  • Able to empower children and help them grow in confidence
  • Calm, patient, and compassionate, especially in moments of challenge
  • Motivated to contribute to a warm, inclusive school environment

About the role

You will work closely with the class teacher to resource and adapt planning and support high quality teaching and learning across all subjects. You will help to create learning environments where pupils can expand their knowledge. You will work with the school community to uphold our trust and school values. The role will include working across a range of year groups providing whole class support.
