Actual Salary: £13.45 per hour (CLF Grade Aii)

Contract Type: Casual

Proposed Start Date: January 2026 ((Subject to completion of pre-employment checks)

We are looking for enthusiastic, reliable and customer-focused individuals to join our supportive and talented team as Casual Leisure Attendants at Kingsmead Academy Sports Centre. As part of the Cabot Learning Federation (CLF) Leisure and Lettings Team, you will play a key role in providing a safe, welcoming and enjoyable environment for students, community groups, clubs and hirers using our facilities. You will help deliver excellent customer service, maintain high standards across the site and support the smooth day-to-day operation of the sports centre.

Please note that applicants must be 18 years of age or over due to insurance requirements associated with the role, including key holder responsibilities and lone working duties.

Working Hours

This is a zero-hours casual position with no guaranteed weekly hours. Hours are flexible and allocated according to facility bookings and your stated availability. Rotas are typically arranged 4-6 weeks in advance, although additional shifts may occasionally be offered to provide absence cover.

Typical operating hours are:

  • Weekdays: 4:30pm - 10:30pm
  • Weekends: 7:00am - 6:00pm (most shifts commence from around 9:00am)
  • Additional evening weekend shifts may be available for larger events and performances.
  • During school holiday periods, operating hours may vary according to bookings.

Most shifts are between 3-6 hours, unless otherwise agreed. Shifts exceeding six hours will include appropriate rest breaks. The sports centre is typically closed on public holidays and for approximately two weeks during the Christmas period.

About the Role

Working under the direction of senior staff, you will help ensure our facilities are safe, secure, clean and ready for use. Once fully trained, the role involves a significant amount of independent and lone working, requiring confidence, initiative and sound decision-making.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Setting up, dismantling and storing sports and event equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Supervising hirers, clubs and visitors to ensure facilities are used safely and appropriately.
  • Carrying out routine facility and equipment checks to maintain high standards and support user safety.
  • Undertaking general cleaning duties, including changing rooms, toilets, sports areas and external spaces.
  • Performing basic maintenance and minor repairs to sports equipment where required.
  • Providing a professional, friendly and helpful service to visitors, responding appropriately to queries, concerns and complaints.
  • Supporting site security, including opening and closing the facility and acting as a key holder where required.
  • Maintaining accurate records and completing relevant documentation.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and responding calmly and professionally to incidents or challenging situations.
  • Adhering to all safeguarding, health and safety, equality and data protection requirements.

About You

We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate:

  • A good awareness of health and safety, security and safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with a wide range of users.
  • The ability to remain calm, professional and non-judgemental when dealing with concerns, incidents or complaints.
  • Confidence working independently with minimal supervision while following established procedures and guidelines.
  • Practical skills and a willingness to undertake cleaning, equipment handling and basic maintenance tasks.
  • The ability to use initiative, adapt to changing situations and make informed decisions.
  • A commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and the wellbeing of children and young people.
  • A willingness to undertake First Aid training if required.

Kingsmead Academy Sports Centre is a busy and vibrant facility, welcoming a wide range of clubs, groups and activities throughout the year. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people, takes pride in maintaining high standards and wants to help create a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for all users.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to review the full Job Description and Person Specification before submitting an application.
