Librarian

The Ravensbourne School · Bromley · Bromley

Job description

Orion Education is a values-led organisation, driven by a determination to create welcoming and inclusive schools where every person thrives, makes excellent progress, and succeeds. We are committed to transforming lives through education, improving outcomes, and promoting social mobility. Our work is underpinned by our shared values oftrust, kindness, and endeavour, and by a strong commitment to collaboration, consistency, and high-quality professional development for all staff.

At The Ravensbourne School, we are proud to be a forward-thinking and inclusive community where learning, wellbeing, and opportunity sit at the heart of everything we do. We are as committed to developing and nurturing our staff as we are to supporting our students.

AsSchool Librarian, you will lead the development and management of the school library to enhance learning, promote a culture of reading for pleasure, and support students in developing independent research and digital literacy skills. You will ensure the library is a welcoming, inclusive, and purposeful environment that supports both academic success and student wellbeing.

The role involves overseeing library services, managing resources, and supporting reading intervention programmes, including working with the Accelerated Reader platform (training provided). You will work closely with teaching and support staff to support students individually and in small groups, helping to remove barriers to learning and promote positive study habits.

You will also contribute to the school’s wider reading strategy by building strong partnerships within the school and with external organisations, ensuring the library plays a central role in supporting literacy, independence, and a lifelong love of reading.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly ambitious school and make a meaningful difference to students’ learning, confidence, and development. If you are passionate about supporting young people and want to be part of a school that is transforming lives, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Who You Are

  • A confident and professional communicator
  • A team player who works well with staff and students in a busy school environment
  • A positive role model who demonstrates high expectations and professionalism
  • Someone who values inclusion and supports all students to succeed

We Are Looking For Someone Who

  • Has experience working in a library, school, or similar setting (desirable)
  • Can promote reading, literacy, and independent learning
  • Is able to support students individually and in small groups
  • Can maintain an organised, welcoming, and purposeful library space
  • Communicates clearly and effectively with staff and students
  • Is committed to safeguarding, inclusion, and student wellbeing
  • Is confident using IT systems (e.g. Arbor, Microsoft Office) to support school processes
  • Wants to be part of a school that is transforming lives through education
