Job description
Job Description
Purpose of the role:
To assist and supervise our students who need varying levels of support at lunchtime. You may be involved in the actual feeding of some students, supervising in the dinner hall, or helping students to collect and return their lunches and equipment. Lunchtime supervisors are also expected to set up and clear the dining room tables.
Once your group has finished their meal, you will then be required to supervise in the playground. This involves directing play, engaging with students in conversation, and ensuring that the students play safely. Some students will also require support from you to return to their classrooms.
As our students have differing needs, you will need to get to know your group and understand their individual requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Feeding or supervising the feeding of the students aged between 11-18 years of age. You may also be required to work anywhere within the Academy, for example, with different age groups or when feeds occur in classrooms
- Managing the students as they move from class to the hall and outside play. Due to the challenging behaviour of some students you may need to physically support them, retrieve them if they run and ensure they are safe
- Supervising students so that they remain safe, encourage them to play and interact appropriately
- Managing behaviour of students where required
- Communicating effectively with staff during busy periods, or if incidents occur
- Communicating effectively with students by adapting to their individual communication preferences
Additional Responsibilities:
- Supporting the development and effectiveness of teamwork within the Academy
- Working to create a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment for the students
- Developing and maintaining working relationships with other professionals and staff
- Attending training at the request of the Academy
- Any other duties deemed appropriate as directed by the Head Teacher
In order to apply for the post, you will need to have a good level of spoken and written English. This role requires effective communication with staff and students, and you will be expected to read and complete paperwork related to the role.
Whilst every effort has been made to set out the main duties and responsibilities of the post, the above lists are not extensive. All staff may be required to undertake additional duties in line with the grade of this post.
Applications are handled on Teaching Vacancies (GOV.UK).
