Salary: Rutland NJC Grade 5 Pay Point 12-17(£25,193 - £27,329 per annum, approximate starting salary of £25,193)
Hours: Term-time, plus 2 weeks (working 40 weeks per year)
Contract Type: Permanent
Working Pattern: Monday - Friday 8am - 4pm
About the Role
Uppingham Community College are looking for a caring, experienced and enthusiastic Medical Support Officer to join our team and be a proactive integrated member of the School Staff Team.
Key Responsibilities
- To provide primary medical care and first aid to students and staff during school hours.
- To support pupils’ wellbeing by identifying health needs, managing medical conditions, and advising on appropriate care plans and reasonable adjustments.
- To work collaboratively with school staff, parents/carers, and external health services to promote a safe, healthy school environment and ensure compliance with health and safeguarding requirements.
What We’re Looking For
- Basic medical knowledge, ideally with medical experience in a school or community setting.
- Up to date first aid skills desirable, training can be provided.
- Experience supporting young people with acute illnesses, injuries, and long-term medical conditions.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, and child protection requirements desirable, full training will be given.
- Ability to build trust and rapport with secondary-age students in a supportive and professional manner.
- Excellent communication skills with students, staff, parents/carers, and external professionals.
- Confidence in maintaining accurate medical records and managing medication safely.
- Organised, calm, and professional, with the ability to manage a busy medical room independently.
- Decision making skills, to respond effectively to emergencies and changing priorities in a school environment.
Qualifications:
4 GCSEs or equivalent, to include English and Maths
Full, clean driving licence
First aid at work qualification
Experience:
- First aid experience
- Experience working with young people
- Good working knowledge of ICT
Skills & Knowledge:
- Knowledge of child protection and health and safety procedures.
- Ability and willingness to undertake professional development.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Empathy with children and young people.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
