Are you passionate about inspiring a love of music in children? Redcastle Family School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, positive and committed Primary Music Teacher to lead and deliver high quality music education across the school. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the musical experiences of our pupils and make a significant impact on their creative development.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated, creative and confident in delivering an engaging music curriculum. You will have a strong understanding of primary music education and a passion for developing children’s musical skills and confidence.

We are seeking someone who:

  • Has high expectations for all pupils
  • Can inspire children to enjoy and participate in music through singing, instrumental work and creative composition
  • Supports children’s social and emotional development through our nurturing ethos
  • Works effectively as part of a team and contributes positively to school life
  • Reflects on and develops their own practice
  • Has a secure understanding of the National Curriculum for Music (KS1 & KS2)
  • Can confidently lead whole class lessons, small group work and performances

Job Description – Primary Music Teacher

Teaching & Learning

  • Plan and deliver high quality music lessons across the primary age range (with a focus on KS2)
  • Teach singing, rhythm, notation, composition and instrumental skills appropriate to age and stage
  • Prepare pupils for performances, assemblies and school events
  • Deliver engaging lessons that support a wide range of abilities and learning needs
  • Use assessment to track progress and inform planning

Curriculum & Leadership

  • Lead the development of the school’s music curriculum
  • Ensure music provision reflects the National Curriculum and supports whole school priorities
  • Contribute to the wider creative arts offer within the school
  • Maintain and organise musical instruments and resources

Inclusion & Pastoral Support

  • Adapt teaching to meet the needs of pupils with SEND
  • Promote confidence, teamwork and creativity through music
  • Support the school’s nurturing ethos and behaviour expectations

Wider School Contribution

  • Lead or support extracurricular music activities (e.g., choir, instrumental groups)
  • Support school performances, celebrations and community events
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to enrich the wider curriculum
