Nursery Teaching Assistant

Byron Primary School · Gillingham · Medway

Job description

About the role:

You will play a key role in delivering high-quality teaching and learning in our brand-new nursery, that meets the needs of our diverse pupil community. This post offers the opportunity to:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive lessons that accelerate progress in the Early Years
  • Use assessment and formative feedback to adapt teaching to individual pupil needs.
  • Support and contribute to whole-school initiatives such as OPAL play and UNICEF RRS to enhance pupils’ personal development.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents and external partners to ensure strong pastoral support and to improve attendance and behaviour.
  • Be part of a professional learning culture where reflection, development and teamwork are encouraged.

We are seeking someone who:

  • Is resilient, reflective and adaptable — able to solve problems with a calm, “can do” approach.
  • Demonstrates high expectations, strong behaviour management and a kind, respectful manner.
  • Communicates effectively with pupils, parents and colleagues and works well as part of a team.
  • Is keen to contribute to whole-school improvement priorities and to lead or support development in curriculum, attendance or pastoral work.
  • Is motivated to continue professional learning and to share practice across the staff team.
  • Has a minimum NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification and previous experience of working in a nursery
