Pastoral & Attendance Support Officer

Knotty Ash Primary School · Liverpool · Liverpool

Job description

Knotty Ash Primary School is seeking a dedicated, compassionate and highly organised Pastoral Attendance Support Officer to join our Inclusion Team.

This is a rewarding opportunity for an individual who is passionate about improving outcomes for children and families. You will play a key role in promoting high levels of attendance, supporting pupil wellbeing, and helping to remove barriers that may prevent children from fully engaging with education. Working closely with pupils, families, school leaders and external agencies, you will make a genuine difference to the lives of our children.

About the Role

As our Pastoral Attendance Support Officer, you will be a vital link between school and home, working proactively with families to improve attendance, punctuality and engagement. You will monitor attendance patterns, coordinate intervention strategies, support safeguarding processes and provide practical assistance to ensure every child can access learning opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor, analyse and report on pupil attendance, identifying concerns and implementing early intervention strategies.
  • Manage first-day absence procedures and follow up unexplained absences.
  • Work closely with pupils, families and staff to remove barriers to attendance and support positive outcomes.
  • Lead attendance support plans and coordinate appropriate interventions for targeted pupils.
  • Liaise with external agencies and represent the school at attendance, safeguarding and family support meetings as required.
  • Contribute to safeguarding, pupil welfare and inclusion, supporting vulnerable children and families.
  • Maintain accurate records, attendance systems and reports, while supporting school communications and administrative processes.

We Are Looking For Someone Who

  • Has excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • Communicates confidently and sensitively with children, families and professionals.
  • Can build positive relationships and work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Is committed to improving attendance, inclusion and outcomes for children.
  • Can work independently while contributing positively to a wider team.
  • Is confident using digital systems and maintaining accurate records.
  • Has experience in an administrative role; experience in a school or educational setting is desirable.
  • Holds GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
  • Has a full driving licence, access to their own vehicle and flexibility to travel as required.

Why Join Us?

At Knotty Ash Primary School and Lydiate Learning Trust, our people are at the heart of our success. We offer:

  • A caring, welcoming and inclusive school community.
  • Excellent professional development and career progression opportunities.
  • High-quality CPD, coaching and mentoring.
  • Employee Assistance Programme and occupational health support.
  • Family-friendly policies.
  • Local Government Pension Scheme.
  • A supportive Trust committed to staff wellbeing and development.
  • The opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of children and families.
