Pastoral Leader and Teacher of English or Maths
Caludon Castle School · Coventry · Coventry
Job description
Pastoral Leader & Teacher of Maths or English
(Attendance & Progress, known as ‘Progress Leader’)
Caludon Castle School
Permanent, Full time
Start date September 2026
TMS/UPS with TLR2B
A Pastoral Leader (Progress and Attendance) at Caludon Castle School plays a pivotal role in the way we wrap support around every young person. At Caludon, our ‘Family Around the Child’ model ensures that no student ever stands alone: each year group is supported by a bespoke team consisting of a senior leader, a non teaching Year Leader, a Pastoral Leader (Progress and Attendance), and a designated Student Support Mentor. Together, this team leads a cohort of around 240 students, organised into 8–9 tutor groups, and takes collective responsibility for the full breadth of pastoral priorities captured in our WRAP framework: Welfare, Respect, Attendance and Progress.
We are a relational school: strong on boundaries and big on heart. Our behaviour pathway is consistent, fair and rooted in our lived motto, ‘Respect to all, From all’, a culture that shapes how we speak, how we listen and how we lead. Within this environment, the Pastoral Leader becomes a key anchor for students, staff and families: someone who can analyse need, build trust, influence change and champion every child’s right to thrive.
This role is ideal for a teacher of Maths or English who is energised by working with a wide range of stakeholders, who values proactive teamwork, and who aspires to secure the very best outcomes for every student. It is a position for someone who sees pastoral leadership not as a reactive function, but as a strategic, relational and deeply impactful part of school life and who is ready to help shape the journey of a year group and ensure that every child feels known, supported and able to succeed.
The successful applicant will:
• Be an excellent classroom practitioner with a genuine passion for learning and teaching, and a commitment to securing high quality provision in English or Maths.
• Be an inspiring leader with the drive to achieve exceptional outcomes and deliver inclusive, aspirational learning experiences for all students.
• Have a strong track record of delivering successful GCSE outcomes across a range of abilities.
• Be able to support, motivate and develop colleagues to continually improve their practice.
• Demonstrate the ability to engage, enthuse and inspire both students and staff.
• Be reflective, resilient and determined to make a profound difference to the lives of young people.
We will play to your strengths and can offer:
• A range of benefits including cycle to work, free parking, an employee discount scheme, Westfield Healthcare Plan and a laptop/iPad.
• A strong commitment to staff wellbeing, including recognition initiatives and a cashback health plan.
• An annual Learning & Teaching Conference for all teaching staff.
We are proud to be part of Castle Phoenix Trust, which offers excellent opportunities for collaboration, professional development and career progression. The Trust is committed to investing in its staff and securing the best possible outcomes for our students, who deserve nothing less. Our values: Respect to All, From All; Innovation; and Collaboration are central to everything we do.
