Aldercar High School is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and committed Pastoral Manager (Head of Year) to join our dedicated student services team.

This is a key middle leadership role within the school, responsible for leading and managing a year group to ensure all students achieve their full potential academically and personally. You will play a crucial role in promoting high standards of behaviour, attendance, achievement and student wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a year group, ensuring high standards of attainment, progress and behaviour
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the tutor team
  • Monitor student progress using data, identifying underachievement and implementing interventions
  • Promote student wellbeing, safeguarding and personal development
  • Lead on behaviour management in line with the school’s Behaviour for Learning policy
  • Work closely with parents/carers, staff and external agencies to support students
  • Coordinate transition processes and key stage events
  • Develop and implement pastoral improvement plans aligned with whole school priorities
  • Support vulnerable groups including SEND, FSM and at-risk students
  • Lead on interventions, mentoring and targeted support programmes
  • Contribute to whole-school development planning and quality assurance

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has significant experience working with young people
  • Has experience managing behaviour and supporting student wellbeing
  • Demonstrates strong leadership and organisational skills
  • Can analyse and use data effectively to drive improvement
  • Is an excellent communicator with students, staff and parents/carers
  • Has the ability to manage and motivate a team
  • Is resilient, proactive and able to work under pressure
  • Has a strong understanding of safeguarding and pastoral care
  • Is committed to raising standards and improving outcomes for all students

Essential Qualifications:

  • Degree level qualification or significant relevant experience

Desirable:

  • Experience working within a school setting
  • Knowledge of school systems (e.g. Arbor, MyConcern)
  • First Aid qualification
