Patroller

Newton Abbot College · Newton Abbot · Devon

Job description

Are you passionate about making a positive difference to young people every day?

Do you enjoy working in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same?

We are seeking a dedicated and approachable Patroller to join our support staff team. Working across our site, both outside and indoors, this is a rewarding role at the heart of our school community, helping to create a safe, supportive and positive environment where students can thrive.

About the role

As a visible presence across the school, you will play a key role in promoting positive behaviour, supporting student wellbeing and ensuring students move safely and calmly throughout the school day. You will build positive relationships with students and colleagues alike, acting as a trusted adult and role model whilst helping to uphold our high standards and values.

What makes us special

Our staff team believe passionately in the power of education to transform lives. We are committed to providing the best possible educational experience that we can; an experience that supports, challenges and inspires our students to achieve their potential and develop into well rounded, kind, resilient and responsible young people, who have a deep love of learning and a curiosity about the world in which they live.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Shares our values and vision for inclusive education
  • Has high expectations for all students and is passionate about helping them achieve their best
  • Has experience working with young people, ideally in an educational setting
  • Is kind, patient, flexible, and an effective communicator
  • Is organised, proactive, great at timekeeping, and a collaborative team player
  • Acts as a positive and professional role model, demonstrating high expectations at all times
  • Would love to join a dedicated staff team who are committed to improving the quality of education across our school
  • Hold a first aid qualification or is willing to undertake one
  • Is committed to safeguarding.

In this role you will:

  • Supervise students throughout the school day, ensuring their safety, wellbeing and positive engagement.
  • Patrol the school site, maintaining a visible presence and responding proactively to issues as they arise.
  • Promote high standards of behaviour and challenge inappropriate conduct in a calm and constructive manner.
  • Support students to make positive choices and take responsibility for their actions.
  • Build productive and respectful relationships with students, helping them feel supported and valued.
  • Supervise lesson changeovers, breaktimes and other key transition points to ensure the smooth and orderly movement of students.
  • Provide first aid support and respond to incidents when required.
  • Work collaboratively with pastoral, student services and wider support teams to provide the best possible experience for students.
  • Contribute to creating a culture where every student feels safe, respected and ready to learn.

We offer:

  • Part time, term-time only working
  • A role where your work really matters and we listen to your voice
  • The opportunity to work in an established team who are invested in growing the potential of others and who are committed to continuous improvement
  • Ongoing professional development.
