Payroll Officer

Girls' Learning Trust · Sutton · Surrey

Job description

The opportunity:

The Trust currently operates an outsourced payroll model and is exploring the transition to a more integrated in-house payroll function. This is a rare opportunity to join the Trust at a pivotal stage and play a key role in shaping the future of payroll services.

Working closely with Finance, People Services and external partners, the successful candidate will help develop a payroll function that is efficient, resilient and well-controlled, whilst ensuring that colleagues across the Trust are paid accurately and on time.

What we offer:

Staff are our most valued asset, and we are continuously working to introduce initiatives or make changes which support them both professionally and personally. Some of the initiatives we have recently introduced are a new Health and Wellbeing Cash plan for staff and their dependents; a generous discretionary leave scheme; and we have made changes to the performance review process ensuring a strong focus on continued professional development.

The role offers flexibility - while the successful candidate will be required to work in the office on a Tuesday and a Thursday and may also be required to work from different schools - there is an opportunity for home working which can be agreed with your line manager.

Our commitment to you:

You will be part of a newly formed finance team, who are committed and work hard, but who also create a fun and supportive environment.

We recognise that your induction and training will be key to your success and we will invest time to ensure you are given all the guidance and support needed at the outset and over the ensuing weeks to fulfil your role effectively.

We will uphold a culture that promotes kindness, collaboration and recognition, ensuring an open, safe, supportive and inclusive environment where everyone feels heard, valued and empowered to contribute.

Professional growth and personal wellbeing are central to our approach. We will provide continuous learning and development opportunities that will help staff thrive and progress their careers. We will uphold a culture that promotes kindness, collaboration and recognition, ensuring an open, safe, supportive and inclusive environment where all individuals feel heard, valued and are empowered to contribute to our mission.

Key responsibilities for the role include:

The role offers far more than monthly payroll processing. As the Trust's payroll specialist, you will:

  • lead end-to-end payroll operations across the Trust
  • provide expert payroll advice and guidance
  • contribute to the development of the future payroll operating model
  • support payroll system implementation and improvement
  • strengthen controls, reporting and compliance; and
  • help improve integration between payroll, HR and finance systems.

The successful candidate will:

We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced payroll professional who enjoys combining operational delivery with process improvement and is excited by the opportunity to help establish and shape an in-house payroll function within a growing multi-academy trust.

Key Application Dates:

  • First Stage Online Interview: Wednesday 18 November.
  • Second Stage In Person Interview: Tuesday 24 November

Sponsorship:

We are not able to offer sponsorship to non-settled individuals for a Skilled Worker Visa.
