Job description
The St Marylebone CE School is a brilliant place to work and learn. In the words of our staff: “We thrive as teachers here because we are trusted and collaboration is so valued.” The School welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds, races, cultures, faiths and genders. The School actively promotes diversity and inclusion across its community and our students come from a wide range of backgrounds: 40% of our students speak English as an additional language; 59% of our students come from backgrounds other than white British.
The School is looking for a self-employed cello and piano tutor to teach for two days per week. You would be teaching girls in Years 7 - 13 and girls and boys in Years 12 - 13.
As a school with a specialism in the Performing Arts, Music plays a very important role and Music tuition is at the forefront of extra-curricular provision. You will join a friendly and supportive team of 19 peripatetic teachers and be welcomed into the Music Faculty. Our teachers are highly regarded in the music world and perform regularly alongside their teaching.
About the role
The role will involve teaching students one-on-one in a range of styles. Experience of cello and piano tuition and a minimum of Grade 8 in both instruments is expected, as is experience of preparing students for their ABRSM exams, as well as GCSE and A Level performances. Whilst experience in teaching both instruments would be an advantage, being a cello specialist is essential. There is also the potential for leading an advanced string group - please detail if you have experience leading ensembles.
Hours
Initially 2 days’ teaching per week, ideally on Mondays and Tuesdays. The ideal candidate would be able to offer regularity of service and provide 30 lessons throughout the year, split across 3 terms as set by the School on a regular set day each week between 8am and 4pm. Although we require the teaching days to be fixed, some flexibility can be offered occasionally.
