Science Technician

Job description

We are seeking a dedicated Science Technician to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will provide practical support within science laboratories, assisting teachers in delivering engaging lessons, experiments, and demonstrations. The ideal candidate will maintain the smooth running of our science curriculum by ensuring equipment and materials are ready for use, while also supporting health and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and set out equipment and materials for science lessons and demonstrations.
  • Support the safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and equipment.
  • Assist with the cleaning and maintenance of laboratories and equipment.
  • Carry out minor repairs on apparatus and stock, and replenish laboratory supplies as needed.
  • Provide administrative support, including photocopying, filing, and creating displays.
  • Follow health and safety guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above (or equivalent).
  • Practical knowledge or experience relevant to the role, including awareness of COSHH requirements.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with staff and students.
  • Competent in using IT tools and basic administrative tasks.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan your workload effectively.
  • Previous experience in a similar operational or support role is beneficial.
