Job description

The Dean Trust is seeking to appoint a Science Technician. In this role you will provide practical and technical support across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics for students in Years 7–11. The role involves preparing and setting up equipment, materials, and resources for lessons, maintaining laboratories and equipment, and supporting teachers in the safe and effective delivery of practical work. The technician will ensure compliance with health and safety procedures, assist with demonstrations when required, and contribute to the smooth running of the Science department.

We are looking for an individual who possess:

  1. Relevant Science qualification
  2. Basic IT skills
  3. Two to three years relevant work experience
  4. Assist with ordering, procuring, storing and maintaining items
  5. Setting up resources, equipment and materials for lessons
  6. Experience of practical laboratory activities
  7. Procedures for preparation, use and maintenance of materials and equipment
  8. Awareness of health and safety issues relating to school science (an aware of CLEAPSS and/or COSHH regulations would be an advantage)
  9. Working knowledge of secondary school science curriculum.
  10. Able to demonstrate experiments and techniques to colleagues and students
  11. Able to work on own initiative and to organise and prioritise tasks
  12. Good communication and interpersonal skills
  13. Ability to work flexibly as part of a team and be available for occasional out of hours work
  14. Willingness to undertake training and keep abreast of current issues relevant to own area of work through networks, conferences and other meetings
  15. Good health, attendance and punctuality record
