Senior Leader for Safeguarding & Designated Safeguarding Lead

Ormiston Sandwell Community Academy · Oldbury · Sandwell

Job description

Work where it matters most, achieve what matters more

Be part of a team where passion meets purpose, as we work together where the challenge is greatest to change the lives and build the futures of children and young people.

A rare opportunity to shape lives, lead a dedicated team and influence the strategic direction of a thriving academy.

At Ormiston Sandwell Community Academy, safeguarding is at the very heart of everything we do. As our current long-serving postholder prepares to move on, we are seeking an exceptional leader to join team OSCA and play a pivotal role in our next chapter of success.

This is far more than a safeguarding role. It is an opportunity to become a key member of the Academy's Senior Leadership Team, helping to shape strategic decisions, influence whole-school improvement and ensure every child receives the care, support and opportunities they deserve.

As Senior Leader for Safeguarding & DSL, you will lead a highly committed safeguarding and inclusion team, driving a culture where students feel safe, valued and empowered to succeed. You will champion vulnerable learners, work alongside senior colleagues across the academy, and develop systems that ensure outstanding outcomes for all students.

About the role

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will:

  • Lead and develop the academy's safeguarding strategy and culture.
  • Act as the Senior Designated Safeguarding Lead, ensuring the highest standards of safeguarding practice.
  • Provide inspirational leadership to the safeguarding and inclusion team.
  • Drive the academy's inclusion agenda, ensuring vulnerable students receive exceptional support.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is passionate about transforming the lives of young people.
  • Has a proven track record of successful safeguarding leadership.
  • Is an outstanding communicator who can build strong relationships with students, families and professionals.
  • Can lead, motivate and inspire a team to achieve excellence

Why join OSCA?

OSCA is a popular, oversubscribed academy that sits at the heart of its community. Following a major rebuild and refurbishment programme, our staff and students benefit from outstanding facilities and modern learning environments that reflect our ambition and commitment to excellence.

Our reputation continues to grow, and we are increasingly becoming the secondary school of choice for families across Sandwell. This is an exciting time to join us as we continue our journey of improvement and innovation.

Why work for Ormiston?

Our vision is to create a school system where every child thrives, regardless of background. Our people are at the heart of our approach - they are our greatest asset.

We exist to provide the best learning opportunities every day, in every school for every child. It is the people and teams in our Trust who make this a reality and ensure we have the greatest impact. If you join us at Ormiston, whatever your role, your work will have purpose and meaning

Ormiston, where every member of staff enjoys…

  • The opportunity to build on the legacy of those who came before - being part of one of the longest standing Trusts, created with the sole purpose of enabling children and young people to thrive
  • Working for a Trust nationally recognised for its impact on disadvantaged children - a rewarding, stimulating career where staff are challenged to be the best they can be, for the pupils we are proud to serve
  • Being part of a team and community where you belong - being part of a well-resourced and ambitious network of experts and professionals that work at the heart of communities
  • A supportive environment to grow your career - an extensive professional development programme, alongside flexible working arrangements and generous benefits

We value the contribution of every colleague and offer a range of benefits designed to support your career, wellbeing and work-life balance. Benefits include automatic pay progression, a generous pension scheme, wellbeing support, exclusive discounts, Blue Light Card access and our cycle-to-work scheme.

Are you ready to lead, influence and inspire?

This role offers a unique opportunity for an ambitious safeguarding professional to combine operational excellence with strategic leadership.

If you share our commitment to helping every child thrive and want to join our team, we would love to hear from you.
