Teacher of Maths

Noel-Baker Academy · Derby · Derby

Job description

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated, proactive and inspiring Teacher of Maths to join the team at Noel Baker Academy. This is an excellent opportunity for a committed classroom practitioner who is passionate about mathematics and motivated by securing strong outcomes for pupils across the full age and ability range.

The successful candidate will plan, deliver and review high-quality Maths lessons which are appropriately matched to pupils’ needs, abilities and prior knowledge. You will use assessment effectively to identify gaps in learning, adapt teaching where required, and support pupils to make strong progress in their mathematical understanding, confidence and attainment.

Working as part of the Maths department, you will contribute to a positive and purposeful learning environment, promote high standards of numeracy and mathematical terminology, and support pupils to develop independence, resilience and a responsible attitude towards their learning. You will also contribute to intervention, enrichment and wider departmental activities where required, including support for pupils preparing for assessments and examinations.

This role would suit someone who is committed to inclusive education, has high expectations of behaviour and achievement, and is passionate about making a positive difference to the learning, confidence and future opportunities of young people. The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a skilled, reflective and enthusiastic Teacher of Maths who can deliver engaging, well-structured lessons and support pupils to achieve their full potential. The ideal candidate will have strong subject and curriculum knowledge, effective classroom and behaviour management skills, and the ability to use assessment to inform planning, intervention and pupil progress.

The ideal candidate will:

  1. Hold a degree qualification, preferably in Maths or a closely related subject.
  2. Hold Qualified Teacher Status, or be working towards qualification.
  3. Have secure knowledge of the Maths curriculum, relevant specifications and assessment requirements.
  4. Be able to plan and deliver effective Maths lessons across the age and ability range.
  5. Use assessment information to identify gaps in learning, plan appropriate interventions and support pupil progress.
  6. Promote high standards of numeracy, mathematical language and accuracy in pupils’ work.
  7. Have strong classroom and behaviour management skills, with the ability to create a positive, safe and purposeful learning environment.
  8. Be able to adapt teaching to meet the needs of pupils from a range of backgrounds, including pupils with SEND, high prior attainment, English as an additional language and those requiring additional support.
  9. Communicate effectively with pupils, parents, carers and colleagues, both verbally and in writing.
  10. Work positively as part of a team and contribute to departmental and whole-school improvement.
  11. Be committed to safeguarding, inclusion, equality and the welfare of children and young people.
  12. Be reflective, organised and committed to ongoing professional development.
