Teaching Assistant

The Flying Bull Academy · Portsmouth · Portsmouth

Job description

The Flying Bull Academy

Located in the heart of Portsmouth, The Flying Bull Academy is proud of its caring ethos, encouraging and supporting children to achieve their full potential, and is a positive and active place to work. We believe that success here is built on strong relationships between everyone involved in the academy.

Position Description

We are looking for new colleagues to join us; a great teaching assistant who is passionate about supporting learning while promoting children’s independence, an enthusiastic team player with high expectations of children’s achievement and behaviour, and a positive attitude. You will contribute to the children’s development including their speech and language, learning, physical and mental well-being by supporting the teaching and learning in the classroom under the direction and guidance of the Class teacher and/or SENCO.

You will support children on a one-to-one or small group basis, across a wide range of learning activities, including the preparation and maintenance of resources. You will need to work in a relational way to ensure that positive behaviour is upheld and promoted.

You will be willing to support pupils with medical and personal hygiene needs. You will ideally have experience of working with children in a primary age setting. You will have excellent interpersonal skills that enable you to communicate with a wide range of people, including children, their parent/carers and colleagues. You will be resilient and hard working with the ability to work on your own initiative while understanding the need to work as part of a cohesive team.

The University of Chichester Academy Trust

You will be part of The University of Chichester Academy Trust, which is uniquely positioned to make a difference in the local educational landscape. The Trust currently encompasses 17 academies, 2 Inclusion centres, and a School-Centred Initial Teacher Training base, all based in Hampshire, Portsmouth, and West Sussex. While we share a common vision and values, each academy has its own identity that contributes to its local community. The Trust is committed to valuing the uniqueness of each school.

Two-Week October Half Term

We have introduced a two-week October half-term across all our schools. This initiative is already making a positive impact, giving staff and pupils a valuable break during the long autumn term, reducing absence through illness, and supporting overall well-being. It also brings greater consistency across our Trust, creating a more connected and efficient way of working. It’s just one example of how we prioritise our people and create a working environment where everyone can thrive.

Diversity and Inclusion

At the University of Chichester Academy Trust, we believe that diversity drives creativity, innovation, and excellence. We are committed to providing equality of opportunity, fostering an inclusive culture, and creating a community where everyone feels they belong. We particularly welcome applications from individuals who are underrepresented within our workforce, including those from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds, disabled individuals, LGBTQI+ individuals, and women—especially for senior leadership roles.

Application Process

For any questions about the application process, please get in touch with Fran Evans at f.evans@flyingbull.chimat.uk

The academy reserves the right to close this vacancy earlier than stated should they receive a suitable application prior to the published closing date.
