Shape Young Lives at Hartley Brook Primary Academy

Hartley Brook Primary Academy is a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Shiregreen, Sheffield, where children are at the heart of everything we do. As part of Astrea Academy Trust, we are driven by the values of scholarship, curiosity, tenacity, aspiration, unity, and responsibility. Our dedicated staff work together to create a nurturing environment where every child feels safe, valued, and supported to achieve their full potential. The school's early years provision is recognised as a particular strength, providing imaginative, language-rich experiences that help children develop confidence, independence, and a love of learning.

We are seeking a caring, enthusiastic, and committed EYFS Teaching Assistant to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting our youngest learners during the most important stage of their educational journey.

About the Role

Working alongside the class teacher, you will support children across the Early Years Foundation Stage, helping to create engaging learning experiences that encourage exploration, creativity, and development. You will help children build the foundations they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally while contributing to a positive and stimulating learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support children's learning and development through a mix of play-based, child-led, and adult-guided activities.
  • Encourage children's communication, language, literacy, numeracy, and personal development skills.
  • Provide support for individual pupils and small groups to help them achieve their developmental milestones.
  • Foster children's confidence, independence, resilience, and positive relationships.
  • Help create and maintain an engaging, safe, and stimulating indoor and outdoor learning environment.
  • Observe children's progress and contribute towards assessment and learning records.
  • Support children with personal care, welfare, and wellbeing needs where required.
  • Work closely with teachers, parents, and colleagues to ensure children receive the best possible support.
  • Promote excellent behaviour, inclusion, safeguarding, and equal opportunities for all pupils.
  • Contribute positively to the wider life, values, and ethos of the school.
Essential Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must have:

  • GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent).
  • A recognised Level 3 Early Years qualification, such as:
    • CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce
    • NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education
    • BTEC National Diploma in Children's Care, Learning and Development
    • Paediatric First Aid Qualification.
    • At least two years' experience working with or caring for children within the relevant age range.
    • A good understanding of child development and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.
    • Knowledge of safeguarding and Keeping Children Safe in Education requirements.
    What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who:

    • Has a genuine passion for supporting young children to learn and grow.
    • Builds positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
    • Understands the importance of high expectations and raising aspirations for every child.
    • Creates a warm, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
    • Demonstrates patience, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude.
    • Can work effectively as part of a team while using their own initiative.
    • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
    • Embraces continuous professional development and is keen to develop their practice.
    • Shares our commitment to providing an exceptional education for every child.
