Job description

Working closely with the SENDCo, teachers, parents and external professionals, you will play a vital role in ensuring students receive the support they need to thrive both academically and personally.

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work with students on a one-to-one basis, in small groups and within the classroom, helping to remove barriers to learning and promote positive outcomes for all.

The successful candidate will be required to enrol on and successfully complete a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification within 18 months of appointment if they do not already hold an equivalent qualification.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing in-class support to students with SEND to ensure full access to the curriculum.
  • Delivering targeted intervention programmes and supporting students in small group and individual settings.
  • Assisting teachers with planning and adapting learning activities to meet individual needs.
  • Monitoring and recording student progress and providing regular feedback to teachers and the SENDCo.
  • Promoting positive behaviour, independence, resilience and self-esteem.
  • Supporting students' use of ICT and assistive technologies.
  • Preparing and maintaining learning resources and specialist equipment.
  • Building positive relationships with students, parents/carers and colleagues.
  • Supporting homework clubs, booster sessions and other learning activities across Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Assisting with examinations, assessments and administrative duties as required.

We Are Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has experience working with young people, ideally within a secondary school setting.
  • Has a passion for supporting students with SEND.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Can build positive and professional relationships with students, staff and families.
  • Is patient, adaptable and resilient.
  • Has strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Can work effectively as part of a team and use their own initiative.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

What we offer:

  • We offer a health cash plan giving you money towards essential medical treatment - including eye care and flu vaccinations;
  • Our staff discount scheme saves you money on supermarket shopping, gym memberships, holidays, breakdown cover, car leasing, cycle schemes and more.
  • All our academies start every term with an additional INSET day set aside for your own planning (in addition to the usual five INSET days- giving you eight in total);
  • At least one guaranteed paid personal day each year, to use as you want.
  • We provide high quality training and development for every stage in your career;
  • We offer access to a comprehensive wellbeing programme, providing support from legal and financial to family and housing and access to free counselling and other wellbeing support.
