  • Salary – MSA Scale A, £12.85/hr and TA Scale D, £13.47-£13.68/hr 
  • Permanent
  • Part Time 
  • TA – 25 hours per week, Term Time plus 1 week 
  • MSA – 2.5 hours per week, Term Time only 
  • Required for September 2026 

 

Due to one of our team going to do teacher training, we are looking to appoint a teaching assistant to join our Autism base team. These is a part-time permanent position starting September 2026. The position is for 25hr TA and 2½ hr MSA.  


The successful candidate will work as part of a highly skilled team to support the learning of 26 pupils with complex needs. As part of the role, they will support with intimate care and also self-help skills such as eating, dressing, brushing teeth etc.  Due to the nature of the post, the successful candidate will need to be able to think on their feet, be flexible in their approach and creative in the delivery of tasks. You will support children at 1:1, small group and whole class level. Children in the base can become dysregulated and it is important that the successful candidate can remain calm and consistent at these times. The role is physical due to the needs of the children and the creative ways in which we support them to learn. This is a highly rewarding role and there will never be a dull day! 


Essential Skills/Experience  

  • Experience of working with children with ASC/complex needs 
  • Experience of managing high level challenging behaviour effectively 
  • The ability to adapt learning to individual pupils 
  • A range of strategies to enable pupils with communication difficulties to communicate and understand  
  • Ability to work well as part of a team  
  • The ability to develop children’s independence in tasks 
  • Ability to follow plans and support implementation of pupils’  individual targets 
  • To help maintain accurate records of pupils’  progress and achievement under guidance of the teacher 
  • Be flexible and adapt positively to change 
  • Show initiative and work independently 


Desirable Skills 

  • Full driving licence  
  • Understanding of AET/ Development Matters 
  • Speech and language training – Signalong, ELKLAN, PECs 
  • Step Up 
  • TEACCH training 
  • Experience of implementing risk plans to ensure the safety of all  
  • Paediatric first aid trained 
  • Experience of working in partnership with parents 
  • Level 2 or above Autism training 


Working Time 

The school day runs from 08:30 – 14:30. You will work 5 hrs each day as a TA and ½ hour each day as MSA.
