Higher Level Teaching Assistant

26 hrs per week - 08:30 - 15:30 (four days per week)

Term time only - 38 weeks

Permanent

This role is for someone who will support learning and wellbeing across primary classrooms, working 1:1 and with small groups to help pupils access the curriculum and make measurable progress. You will help deliver focused literacy and numeracy support, assist with classroom organisation and resources, and contribute to pupils’ safety, behaviour and personal development while working with class teachers and external professionals across the Trust.

What you'll be doing

  • Work with individuals and small groups under the direction of class teachers, delivering agreed activities and interventions (e.g. phonics, nurture support).
  • Supervise classes for short periods and oversee pupils on visits, trips and break/lunchtime duties when required.
  • Assist with preparing classroom materials, displays and resources; support pupils to record work and develop organisational skills.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress following school procedures and give clear verbal and written feedback to teachers.
  • Support pupils with specific needs after appropriate training and where a care plan is agreed (e.g. speech/language, physical or medical needs).
  • Contribute information for EHCP reviews and carry out tasks arising from EHCPs.
  • Help maintain a tidy, safe learning environment and manage resources responsibly.
  • Follow behaviour management approaches set by teachers and support inclusion and pupil self-esteem.
  • Maintain confidentiality in line with GDPR and school policy; liaise with external professionals as needed.

What we're looking for

Essential:

  • GCSE (grade 4/C) or equivalent in English and Maths.
  • Experience working with children and young people and the ability to form positive relationships.
  • Good written and verbal communication and accurate record-keeping.
  • Basic IT/keyboard skills and the ability to adapt resources so pupils can access learning.
  • Reliability, tact, patience and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Desirable:

  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.
  • Recent, relevant training (e.g. Autism awareness, ELSA, Team Teach) and experience delivering targeted interventions.

About the team

You will be part of the school team and may work across schools in the Compass Eko Trust. A named class teacher retains overall responsibility for pupils; you will be supported by leaders and colleagues and will contribute to shared teaching and safeguarding duties.

What we offer

  • Salary paid on the scale: £25,185.00 - £28,142.00.
  • Expectation to participate in statutory and Trust-directed training and professional development.
  • A role that involves varied day-to-day practice supporting pupils’ learning and wellbeing across Trust schools.
