Cardinal Newman School is an 11-19 comprehensive school with Specialist Science Status, serving the Roman Catholic community in Luton and Dunstable. We are one of the most successful schools in Luton and have a thriving 6th form with 300 students. We have been consistently described by Ofsted as a ‘good’ school and under Section 48 as an ‘outstanding Catholic school’.

An opportunity exists for a part-time Textiles Technician to support the management and delivery of the Textiles curriculum. The daily responsibilities will include the following:

  • Preparation of fabric components prior to lessons.
  • Ordering, organising and recording of materials and equipment.
  • Assisting with exam preparation and displays.
  • Assisting students in class when required.
  • To be responsible for photographing and displaying student work.
  • Ensure that equipment is working and available for lessons and the room is tidy. Preparing and clearing away of materials as required. Ensuring routine maintenance of equipment is done.
  • To provide routine admin work for the department, ensuring that work is available for supply staff when the textiles teachers are absent/unavailable.

The department is hoping to attract a person who is reliable, self-motivated, flexible, able to use their own initiative and work within a team. The applicant does not necessarily need to be skilled in all areas above however, a qualification / experience in dress making is advantageous.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers, prohibition order check and the Disclosing & Barring Service.
