Head of Physical Education (PE) with Science Teaching

Ark Pioneer Academy · Barnet · Barnet

Job description

Role: Head of Physical Education (PE) with Science Teaching

Start: 5th January 2027

Reports to: Assistant Principal

Salary: MPS £37,313 - £49,745 / UPS £52,221 - £56,157 plus TLR

We are seeking an exceptional Head of PE to lead our dedicated team and inspire the next generation. Someone who cares deeply about the pupils they teach and is dedicated to helping our pupils access real options.

You can look forward to joining a great working environment where pupils are bought in to the school’s ethos and typically work with great enthusiasm, diligence and gratitude towards their teachers.

As the Head of PE, you will provide strategic leadership and management to a collaborative and dynamic department. With a commitment to excellence, you will ensure that every student receives an outstanding education, creating a love for PE while driving high levels of achievement.

You will lead, develop and manage the effective delivery of an outstanding curriculum, which prioritises knowledge acquisition and recall enabling the highest level of pupil progress and attainment. You will lead the development of the department and ensure that teaching and learning remain exceptional while promoting a strong school culture within a nurturing and rigorous environment.

What’s special about this role?

This role is an opportunity to be part of a committed and passionate team, we plan collaboratively and work with colleagues across our network. GSCE PE is a popular choice. We offer a range of enrichment opportunities for our pupils - from exploring ‘fast fashion’ to an introduction to criminology, broadening pupils’ understanding of the world around them.

Who are we looking for?

Across school life, we embed high aspirations and a growth mindset in all of our children. We believe that every single child who joins us has the potential to be knowledgeable, articulate and successful. It’s important this resonates with all candidates. Equally important is subject expertise, which is critical to support strong curriculum planning and implementation.

Why will you love our school?

There are lots of reasons! We’re lucky to be based in a brand-new building with top class facilities. We serve a wonderfully diverse community - we are non-denominational, mixed gender and two fifths of our pupils receive pupil premium funding. We’re led by our values - Aim High, Have Integrity, Be Kind and Model Determination and our team truly unite behind our vision. Curriculum is incredibly important to us and we’ve planned backwards from university readiness to give our pupils the very best in every subject discipline. We timetable collaborative planning and love to engage in ‘productive struggle’. Every team member is supported with coaching and tailored professional development, whatever stage they are at in their career.  Our team say: ‘All staff are incredibly supportive and positive, and it is a great environment to work in’.
