We have an exciting opportunity for a Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting students with their Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, working in conjunction with the SENDCo to implement approved work, care and support programmes. The successful candidate will be required to work with young people (11-16) on a 1:1 basis as well as groups of students, providing opportunities for learning and positive social interaction inside and outside of the classroom.

The post-holder will liaise closely with the SENDCo on strategies to maximise inclusion academically, socially and emotionally and promote strong links with the student’s parents/carers. The successful candidate will have a shared commitment to our values and must have the ability to form positive working relationships, working closely with outside professionals to best support the student.

Baxter College is a thriving, inclusive secondary school, providing an equitable education experience to the young people of Wyre Forest. The education we provide at Baxter College is built on six values that provide the nurturing conditions for young people to flourish into successful futures.

At Baxter College, our values are essential to creating a positive and productive learning environment. We strive to instill these values in our students through our everyday conduct, both in and out of the classroom.

  • Brilliance: We believe that all students have the potential to be brilliant, and we strive to provide them with the opportunities and support they need to succeed.
  • Accountability: We believe that students are responsible for their own learning, and we expect them to take ownership of their work and be accountable for their actions.
  • EXcellence: We believe that students should strive for excellence in everything they do, and we encourage them to challenge themselves and never give up.
  • Trust: We believe that trust is essential for a positive learning environment, and we trust our students to do their best and behave in a responsible manner.
  • Engagement: We believe that students learn best when they are engaged in their learning, and we create a variety of opportunities for students to be actively involved in their education.
  • Routine: We believe that routines help students feel organised and in control, and we encourage students to develop and follow routines.

Joining our school community will suit those with:

  • A shared commitment to our values and to forming positive working relationships with our community
  • Patience, empathy, and compassion, with a drive to support pupils’ emotional and academic progress.
  • Experience in building and maintaining effective relationships with families and external agencies.
  • Commitment to their own professional development and a culture of open professional dialogue
  • Passion for combating social disadvantage and generating social capital
  • Enthusiasm for innovation in curriculum and assessment
