About Lower Meadow Academy

Lower Meadow Academy is a vibrant and inclusive primary school where every child is encouraged to achieve their full potential academically, socially and emotionally. Our dedicated staff work collaboratively to create a nurturing environment built on high expectations, strong relationships and a commitment to ensuring all pupils receive the support they need to succeed. As part of Astrea Academy Trust, we benefit from a strong network of professional development, collaboration and shared expertise, ensuring excellent opportunities for both pupils and staff to flourish.

The Role

We are seeking an inspirational and committed SENDCo to lead and develop our special educational needs and disabilities provision. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher who is passionate about inclusion and ensuring that every pupil receives the support, challenge and opportunities they need to thrive. Working closely with academy leaders, staff, families and external agencies, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and enhancing SEND provision across the academy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate the academy's SEND provision, ensuring compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and Equality Act 2010.
  • Oversee the identification, assessment, monitoring and review of pupils with SEND, including maintaining an accurate SEND register.
  • Coordinate and monitor provision for pupils with SEND, including those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Lead annual reviews, EHCP applications and referrals, ensuring statutory requirements and timescales are met.
  • Provide expert advice, guidance and training to colleagues, promoting high-quality inclusive teaching and learning across the academy.
  • Work closely with parents, carers, external agencies and Trust colleagues to secure the best possible outcomes for pupils.
  • Analyse pupil progress and SEND data to evaluate the impact of interventions and inform strategic improvement planning.
  • Champion an inclusive culture where pupils with SEND are fully supported, engaged and celebrated within academy life.
What We're Looking For

We are looking for a dedicated professional who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Has a strong understanding of SEND legislation, the SEND Code of Practice and inclusive educational practice.
  • Has successful teaching experience within a primary setting.
  • Has experience of supporting pupils with SEND to make strong academic and personal progress.
  • Can effectively use assessment information and data to plan, monitor and evaluate provision.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills.
  • Is committed to professional development and maintaining high expectations for all pupils.
  • Shares our belief that every child can achieve and deserves the opportunity to succeed.

Commitment to Safeguarding and EDI:

Astrea Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All appointments are subject to satisfactory background checks, including references and an enhanced DBS check. We value diversity and welcome applications from underrepresented groups. As a Disability Confident employer, we provide reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process to ensure all candidates can fully demonstrate their abilities.

In line with Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 and the statutory Code of Practice, the Trust requires all public-facing post holders to demonstrate fluent English. Within a school setting, this applies to all roles that involve direct or indirect interaction with pupils, parents, or members of the public.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early, so don't miss out on this exciting opportunity. Please note that interview dates are flexible, and the academy reserves the right to interview shortlisted candidates during the application window.
