About this Role
An exciting opportunity to be part of an evolving Alternative Provision - FINCH, part of Fortismere School. We are looking for a Teaching Assistant who is flexible, creative, and adaptable, with a passion for changing lives through education. FINCH is seeking to appoint a highly motivated, student-centered individual to provide learning support, behaviour management, and pastoral support to students within our provision. The successful candidate will also play an active role in supporting the day-to-day running of the provision and working collaboratively with staff to ensure a safe, nurturing, and effective learning environment.
About You
You will be experienced in providing support in an educational setting as a Teaching Assistant. You will support students to access their curriculum and other provision services. You may be asked to work with individuals in mentoring or behaviour sessions and within the classroom, helping with tasks such as literacy, numeracy, social interaction, and emotional regulation.
The successful candidate will have a passion for supporting a range of students with varied needs, including students with ADHD, Tourette syndrome, emotionally based school avoidance, anxiety, medical conditions, and other social, emotional, and mental health needs.
A strong understanding of trauma-informed practice is essential, alongside excellent behaviour management skills. You will be able to build trusting relationships with young people, understand the impact of adverse experiences on learning and behaviour, and use restorative and supportive approaches to help students engage successfully in education.
The successful candidate will have the ability to:
- Support students with a range of needs within lessons and targeted interventions.
- Use trauma-informed and restorative approaches to support students' emotional wellbeing, engagement, and personal development.
- Demonstrate excellent behaviour management skills and confidently support students presenting with challenging behaviours.
- Build positive and supportive relationships with students while promoting confidence, independence, resilience, and emotional wellbeing.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, parents/carers, and external professionals.
- Support the delivery of small-group and 1:1 interventions under the guidance of the FINCH Lead Teacher.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to monitoring student progress, behaviour, attendance, and support plans.
- Support the effective day-to-day running and development of the provision.
- Provide practical support to colleagues and contribute positively to a strong team culture.
- Work flexibly and use initiative within a busy and dynamic school environment.
- Contribute positively to the inclusive ethos and wider life of the school.
