Learning Coach - BSL

Avanti House School · Stanmore · Harrow

Job description

While we would ideally like candidates to hold a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in British Sign Language (BSL), we recognise that valuable skills and experience can be gained through a variety of routes. We therefore welcome applications from individuals who are currently working towards these qualifications or who can demonstrate strong BSL knowledge, practical communication skills, and relevant experience, even if they do not yet hold a formal qualification. For the right candidate, we are willing to be flexible and consider equivalent skills, experience, and commitment to ongoing professional development.

  • Avanti House Secondary School is seeking committed and compassionate Learning Coaches to support pupils in reaching their full potential.
  • In this role, you will support tailored interventions, promote positive behaviour, and help create an environment where all pupils can succeed.
  • You will work as part of a collaborative team committed to high standards and inclusive practice.
  • What will you do?

    • Build strong, supportive relationships with pupils, delivering tailored one-to-one and small group interventions that meet individual learning, social and emotional needs.
    • Support inclusive learning by working closely with teachers to adapt resources, implement strategies (including SEND and EAL support), and ensure all pupils can access and engage with the curriculum.
    • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation, using consistent strategies to support pupils’ wellbeing and readiness to learn.
    • Collaborate with colleagues, families and external professionals to monitor progress, share insights and contribute to effective support planning.
    • Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and contribute to the wider life of the school, including enrichment activities, displays, trips and ongoing professional development.

    What are we looking for?

    • Evidence of strong communication skills
    • An understanding of classroom roles and responsibilities
    • An ability to understand the principles of child development and learning processes and in particular barriers to learning
